Sintir/Hajhooj (Morocco) – I first heard of this instrument a few years ago from a Hassan Hakmoun CD and I’ve been looking for one ever since. I was just about resigned to building one myself out of a piñon log when I found a nice older one in a Santa Fe import shop owned by an ethnomusicologist! Made a nice design in brass tacks on the back. Added friction pegs to the tailpiece area and several bootlace frets to the round neck. Next step is to make a new bridge out of Padauk. I restrung it with gas trimmer line gauged .080 .095 and .105 and tuned it C2 F2 C3. |
